Kidspeak

Kidspeak is squarely aimed at showing young people two things. That they are not alone – and they do have a voice. Our job now is to ensure policymakers listen and act – Margaret Moran MP

The Kidspeak project took up the legacy of Womenspeak by giving children and young people a direct line to Parliament so that their views too could be heard.

Children and young people who had experienced domestic violence were given the opportunity to talk about their experiences with one another in a safe environment. They were also given the opportunity to talk online to key decision-makers in their lives.

Kidspeak’s aims

  • To give children a voice to express their experiences of domestic violence in a safe, anonymous and fully moderated online environment
  • To aid children seeking help by directing them to the help lines and websites of children’s charities
  • To maximise impact by conducting extensive outreach work and producing training and publicity materials
  • Ultimately, inform the nationally policy debate on the needs of children experiencing domestic violence

Because the Kidspeak project was so firmly focused on one of society’s most vulnerable groups, extraordinary measures were be taken to ensure online security.

eQuality Networks was able to connect with those least likely to have support in dealing with domestic violence issues, and brought on board young people who are known to be at risk or who are survivors of domestic violence.
